Most people grow up wanting to be famous, rich, and in control of their own life. However, in order to do this, you must become a leader at some point in your life, as you probably already know. So why is it that when you finally start to get to that place, many times you find yourself all alone?
If you look at the word âleadershipâ, the answer is right in front of you. This word can actually be split into two words, âleaderâ and âshipâ. In other words, a ship that leads. By definition, to lead means that you go in front of or show someone the way.
Itâs like birds that fly in a âVâ formation. There is one lone bird out in front. This bird canât tell if anyone is following him because he is focused on whatâs in front of him and where he is going.
As a leader you wonât always feel like you are being supported or that other people are cheering you on. Most people canât handle this and thatâs why they never find their greatness in life. Being a leader means stepping out from the crowd and doing things that wonât or canât be done by others unless they are following the lead of someone else.
Of course, leadership isnât always lonely, but understanding these vital keys in leadership will help you get through those times when they come. Once you are doing the leading, and people see that where you are going is a great place, you will begin to draw a great crowd behind you, and they will support and cheer you on.

What are the benefits of studying leadership?
Please don't just say being a better leader, I'm looking for more in depth answers, does it make you a better follower as well? Does it make you understand people and motivation better, etc?
There are many! It teaches you to think through problems critically, to come up with the best possible solution, it teaches you to learn other people's learning styles and personalities so that you can manage them effectively, it teaches you confidence in yourself and your decisions, it teaches you how to be a good coworker, manager, boss, etc.
You can also learn how to learn and benefit from your mistakes, so you will still be a credible leader. Learning about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses always helps you in your interactions with others.
