Meditation for Treating Anxiety

Anxiety is a condition of a most serious nature that must be dealt with by many people. With millions of people dealing with this problem there will not be a standard level of anxiety. There are many who have lower levels of anxiety but they are still bothersome. Other people have levels that keep them in a constant state of worrying about an attack. No matter what level the person has, treatment should be the way of dealing with these attacks.

The treatment most commonly used for anxiety is therapy and in addition prescribed medications are also used. But there are people who prefer to use a more holistic method of dealing with the anxiety problem. This will includes a therapy which employs meditation which has shown great success even for severe sufferers of anxiety.

Most people have a certain preconceived notions surrounding meditation and mediation therapy. For some, meditation is a “spacey” concept that has little real world value. In actuality, meditation is an excellent process for reducing the anxiety that affects the mind since it involves engaging the mind in a calming effect. This shuts down much of the “noise” the mind must contend with when it suffers from high anxiety.

Contrary to what many people believe, basic meditation can in fact be done even when you’re walking or moving. For the most part, meditation requires that you clear your mind of thought, primarily by distancing yourself from images, thought, events and people. Furthermore, in addition to being able to meditate on something in particular, one can also meditate with a totally clear mind instead. Interestingly enough, one method which has proved to be extremely popular, is to meditate on a Zen koan

This is a stylistic approach to a question that has no answer. A Zen Koan is used to develop the skills needed to search one’s own intrinsic character. This may seem somewhat daunting but in actuality it is simple. By allowing the mind to calm down and remove much of the ‘noise’ that is consistently present the anxiety is allowed to fade away.

Learning the basics of mediation is not all that tough. There are many free resources on the internet that detail the subject. Simply following their detailed tips can lead to at least a rudimentary understanding of what is needed to get the most out of a meditation session.

Naturally there are some people who will be leery of meditating alone. Many people would rather be with other people to experience this. A solution to this is to sign up for yoga classes. The process of combining meditation with yoga will help to calm the mind and relieve the feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, and pain.

Practicing yoga in your home is also recommended when you are not in class. This is helpful to achieve a habit of solitary meditation. Alleviating your anxiety will be accomplished. This is not a new concept. Meditation has been a method of relieving anxiety for many thousands of years. Why has it been used for so many years? Because it works. This is the reason that meditation should be tried by those who have anxiety problems.

Whether or not this is the first time you’ve heard about meditation therapy, you can be rest assured that it’s been in use for thousands of years already. Surely, if meditation didn’t work, it wouldn’t still be around today. If you suffer from anxiety, give it a try because after all, you have nothing to loose.

Some Meditation Tips For Beginners

Posted by Gabriel | Posted in Meditation | Posted on 24-03-2009

by Ray

Meditation for beginners can be confusing sometimes. As the new person starts to investigate the available literature and instruction manuals out there, they are confronted by a mind-boggling amount of techniques, methods and requirments.

But often it is not the vast array of methods of meditation that will be the challenge for the beginner. It is more often a question of whether they have clearly defined their goals.

What is your specific goal to learn meditation? Is it to be healthy? To gain energy? Have a sense of mental peace or even enlightenment?

While each beginner may have different reasons or combination of goals they want to accomplished, they must be clear on the aspect that matters to them most.

This is critical as many people start meditatiing without a clear objective and years later discovered that they had wasted their time on something trivial to them.

Considering that there are thousands of methods of meditation, each designed to reach a certain outcome, it becomes even more important to plan out in advance.

Therefore, the first step in meditation for beginners should be to write down what they want out of their meditation and how long they expect to reach these goals.

When you have done that, the next step should be to investigate the types of meditation that will bring you there. Then look at how much time and effort is required to reach it and see if it falls within your lifestyle and budget. Far too often, beginners jump into a meditation program eagerly without checking, only to discover that they cannot keep up with the daily 3-4 hours of required meditation.

The 3rd step would then be to seek out qualified teachers who teaches the type of meditation you want to learn. It is preferable that you have a teacher for meditation, if not a book or manual might suffice if the meditation method is not risky or reqiures supervision. Now, on seeking instruction, the 2 things you should look at is the comptency of the teacher and the students. Does the teacher show the outcome (good health, etc) that result from the specific meditation practiced? Does his or her students demostrate the fruitation of these outcomes? If the answer is yes to both then you have a good chance of succeeding, provided you put in the effort. If not, it may be either the teacher cannot teach well or does not know enough.

I hope the above tips in meditation for beginneers has been helpful. If you want to get a good introduction into meditation, be sure to check out our site. Thanks for reading.

Understanding Telepathic Communication

Posted by Glenda Burns | Posted in Meditation | Posted on 19-02-2009

by Alex J Gould

It’s a well known fact that humans only use around 10% of their brains. The function of other 90% remains a mystery to most people.

The ability is within everyone to communicate using only the power of the mind. We are able to see what others are thinking without saying anything or using any physical effort.

We are trained from childhood to conform to our parent’s expectations and the boundaries of society. The true powers of our minds are not explored as we are not encouraged or trained to think outside the box for fear of ridicule.

And so the ability fades into the background to surface on those odd occasions when the telephone rings and you just instantly know who’s on the other end.

Is this a psychic ability or are we communicating with others through telepathy. Did you receive a message from someone needing to contact you?

There are many instances in our daily lives where we communicate with other people on a subconscious level. But did you know you it is possible to train your mind to communicate consciously as well?

Mental telepathy is a talent we are all born with. The fact is most people never consciously use it therefore our natural ability to communicate with our mind is never developed. As a result most people never learn or even realize they have this power. In fact many believe they have this power is but do not know how to make it work for them.

According to scientists our thoughts have a certain frequency, somewhat like radio frequencies. This frequency can be measured. Directing these thoughts to a targeted area is the key to using your mind as a means of communication.

Some techniques to enhance your telepathic abilities

*Get relaxed - You need to put yourself into a trance like mode, this will allow your mind to receive messages that others are trying to send you or if you want to connect with someone. When your mind and body are relaxed you are open to send and receive telepathic messages.

If you’re working on your telepathic ability alone then spend some time learning how to bring yourself into a trance state.

*Learn to focus - Find a place where you will not be disturbed, relax your mind and body. Picture the one you want to communicate with mentally. Send the message and assure yourself they are getting it. Don’t make it a command just tell the person you would like to hear from them and think pleasing thoughts about them.

*Belief - You need to believe that the other person is receiving your message. Keep an open minded attitude as you learn to expand your telepathic focus.

*End Your Projection - Rather than let your mind trail off onto other things, simply withdraw your thoughts back into yourself and stop projecting. The reason for this is quite simple.

You must release your thoughts and feelings about this person. This has the effect of the person missing you more and thus increasing their desire to talk to you. The person should contact you very soon.

Practicing by yourself in this way will help you use your mind to develop your telepathic talents. There are also exercises for you to do with another person to advance your skills.

A quick way to practice with two people.

*Sender and Receiver - Decide which of you will be the message sender and which will be the receiver. For the purpose of this example, we’ll assume you are the sender.

Since you are the sender your friend the receiver needs to have a pen and paper handy and be prepared to write down what comes into their mind. The receiver may feel silly at first so remember to stress how important it is to write everything down regardless of how trivial it may seem.

*Visualize - You are the sender so you should have some simple images in mind to send to your receiver. These should be well known objects, for instance, a star, an orange, or an apple. These will be simple and easy to focus on and easier for you receiver to get than more complex images.

*Transmitting - Relax and shut your eyes. Imagine a line of communication flowing to and from your receiver, perhaps an imaginary line between the two of you. Get as clear of a picture as you can of this line of thought flowing back and forth.

Get a clear picture of your image and send it down the line. Imagine a clear, bright picture of it racing or flowing to your receiver. Stay focused on the object until you see it reach the receiver.

Visualizing is a very effective way to send messages telepathicly.

*End Transmission - When you feel that your thought-object has reached its destination, stop projecting and allow your mind to be blank. This pause in transmission is important because it allows your receiver time to realize that an image really did appear. When it stops it also allows the receiver time to take a note of what image he saw.

*Receiver - The receiver should relax and remain as calm as possible. With an open mind and a willingness to receive images and impressions, the receiver should write down any impressions that come to mind.

All humans will experience flashes and images in their mind’s-eye when their thoughts are still. Your receiver will at first believe he’s making things up, but it’s important to still record any impressions.

*Check the results - When the session is complete, see how well both of you done in sending and receiving images. Anyone will get some of them right as well have the ability to do this. It will take some training to do really well at it as a rule. A perfect score would be very unusual on the first try.

Remember, practice makes perfect!

Meditation is not a new technique; it prevails from ancient times as the method to bring tranquility to the mind. The increased acceptance of meditation in stress management is mainly because of the scientific evidence that support its effectiveness in that area. Experiments have shown that meditation will shift the brain waves from the right frontal cortex to left front cortex, which helps to change the mind from a tensed condition to a calmer state. With this practice, the body can switch the brain waves to resting alpha state or relaxing theta state and the stress inducing endocrine secretions such as cortisol and adrenal hormones can also be suppressed. The secretion of endorphins is also substantiated, which is a natural stress and pain reliever.

You can manage your stress through meditation effectively by including it in your daily routine. There are many different types of meditation techniques such as mindfulness meditation, concentrative meditation and transcendental meditation. Meditation practice is simple irrespective of the technique and requires only 15-20 minutes daily. It will be an effortless procedure and does not require any other probes to perform the meditation. To begin your meditation, simply sit or lie down and concentrate on a particular object or your breath.

Not only your mind, but the body is also well maintained by the meditation. Meditation will reduce the psychological symptoms of stress such as depression, anxiety and panic attacks. This will provide behavioral and social changes, which will make you more creative and boost the talents to increase productivity.
