How to Influence Behavior in School

Posted by admin | Posted in Presentation | Posted on 18-04-2009

In school, it is inevitable that there is sometimes conflict between the teacher and the student or among the students. Instead of sitting idly by and doing nothing, the teacher must learn how to influence this type of rude behavior because it is something that must never be tolerated in the classroom.

If the student is failing in one subject and the students are making fun of this person, the best way to make an influence on the student is to spend more time with that student. This is known as hurdle helping where additional hours of work are done after school and this can be done with the teacher or with a fellow student.

The teacher is not the only one responsible for the child’s performance in school. Parents have a share in the load too so everyone has to agree on what should be done to improve the situation. This technique is known as a contract where all parties will sign an agreement stating that they will do their best to improve.

Included in the agreement is the student’s expected behavior in school and at home. So that the teacher and the parents know how things are progressing, a time line is set to see if such goals are achieved.

Should the student’s behavior be caused by other factors, the student can try something called antiseptic bouncing. Here, the student is instructed to do an errand so they can get out of the classroom and cool off. It can be something as simple as giving a note to another teacher or returning a book to the library so that person is able to calm down before returning back to class.

Perhaps the simplest way to stop a student from exhibiting bad behavior is to call their attention. Parents do this too by simply saying no but in school, students have to know what they should stop doing it. This is the beauty of direct appeal and the best way to make it stick in the student’s head is to thank them for not doing it again.

Similar to direct appeal is the “I” Messages. Here, the teacher is able to write down what he or she feels about the student’s misbehavior. This technique consists of three parts namely when the student misbehaves, how the teacher feels and why.

Another influence technique is Make a Date which is simply talking to the student after class. This will allow the teacher and the student to talk in private and try to solve the problem together.

Most kids watch television and what they see in the media has a strong influence. Teachers can also influence their behavior through a technique called modeling. This can be done showing a video, making other students role play, drawing or cutting out some pictures. For this to work, the teacher must know the person whom the student looks up to because this is the only way to get the student to change their behavior.

Teachers can influence how students behave in school. They can do it on their own and also with the help of the child’s parents and peers. If one technique doesn’t work, try another because if the teacher gives up, they have not done their jobs in preparing the student for the future.

How to Influence People

Posted by admin | Posted in Presentation | Posted on 15-04-2009

Many people want to know the secret of how to influence people, seeing the fact that not only is it beneficial for them, but is also a good way to build

character and relationships as well.

There are numerous ways on how to handle influence and what it can do to people, but there are certain fundamental yet very effective ways on how to try and

influence other people.

First fundamental rule about how to influence other people is to know that first, it is important to consider that influence is not about self, it is

recognizing the fact that one is being considerate of others and conscious about their state of affairs.

Selflessness is not about submitting oneself to the idea of giving up one’s individuality, but it is recognizing others and being sensitive also about their

needs and wants.

Second fundamental rule of influence is being mindful of not criticizing others, especially
in resisting the urge to complain or condemn others indiscriminately.

Rule of thumb is that you rarely find people wanting to be criticized, regardless of whether what they have done is wrong or right, or whether criticism is

constructive or destructive – no one wants to be criticized.

Recognizing this, one must be aware that criticizing is always pointing a finger at somebody and telling them right in the face that what they did is wrong,

no matter how much it is packaged or euphemized.

Also the same goes with complaining and condemning, since it brings out the defense mechanism with others and builds resentment, as well as hurt self-

esteem.

In order to succeed in gaining the most influence out of others, positive reinforcement is the key, instead of pointing out what is wrong and what is

obviously their own fault.

The third fundamental rule is the selfless act of always giving honest and sincere appreciation of others, especially for those that have done the right

thing.

This creates a morale boosting sense of accomplishment and want, reinforcing and further encouraging others in not having to be forced to succeed in doing

what is socially acceptable and politically correct.

Next fundamental rule is getting to arouse in others an eagerness or desire to be passionate about one thing or an idea about something.

By doing this, one needs to be genuinely interested in others, a trait which bespeaks of selflessness and being considerate of other people.
Another fundamental rule is knowing how to bring out the best in others. This means that by doing so, a person must know how to encourage others to be more

confident of themselves and know how to take control of life’s situations.

It is by helping them understand that importance of having good self –esteem and allowing others to value their own worth and, as well as their sense or

pride and achievements.

Be a good listener.

The fact that a person is willing enough to listen, makes them good enough to take control of the situation.

Being able to listen is a true test of leadership and will make one understand the importance of how it means to influence other people.

Lastly, be able to admit making mistakes. Do not force yourself into believing that everything you do is right.

So always try to remember that to know how to influence people, one must also know how to give in to selfless acts.

Effect of Word-of-Mouth Marketing on Your Branding Strategy

Word of Mouth Marketing

There’s probably no more effective branding strategy in existence than word of mouth

marketing. However, only few realize its actual potential in helping you build a

successful business and branding system. What could be better than having actual people

talk others into doing business with your company? It is a common thing for people to do,

which is talk about something a recent product that they were satisfied or had good

experiences with.

And yet, word of mouth marketing does not cost you anything. It is just as effective as

other methods of advertising or increasing awareness about your company’s products or

services but without the entailing costs and investments. Even marketing experts profess

word of mouth marketing to be the most potent means of communicating a company’s marketing

message.

Effects of Word of Mouth Marketing

If you have seen various TV commercials or websites that sell products, then you might

already be familiar with testimonials. This is a marketing ploy utilized by most business

owners in order to provide a valid proof with regards to the benefits and claims made by

the company, which is in the form of actual users of the product.

However, there is a discrepancy here: if business owners were to tap people to provide a

testimony about a product and the results experienced, then it is most likely a biased

demographic. The business owner will pick only users who have something positive to say

about the product, since their main intent is to influence the buying choices of the

consumers.

This is when the power of word of mouth marketing becomes evident. Using this method to

communicate the potentials of a given brand creates a personal connection between the

consumers and the product in question. Previous users to the product who attained

satisfaction from it can recommend the product to their friends or family members.

Therefore, business owners can get free advertisement out of that, which is probably as

effective (or more) than a TV ad but without the costs.

Word of mouth marketing can work to a company’s disadvantage as well. It happens when

people who have tried the product have certain complaints about bad service, or bad

quality products, and unsatisfactory customer relations. Research reveals that word of

mouth marketing essentially has a bigger impact on the buying decisions of people aged

between 18 to 34 and 35-54.

Bigger Customer Voice

It has been highly emphasized by marketing experts that if you want to maintain or

increase your market share, you need to work on providing excellent customer service. This

will ensure that you get a share of loyal customers who believe and trust in your brand.

If you’re able to successfully enhance that trust, then you are able to produce a good

customer voice. Therefore, when these individuals are asked to say something about your

company, they only have positive views to say.

Hence, several companies are now devising methods to improve their “listening” ability

when it comes to customer voice. Indeed, improving customer communications will produce

satisfied customers and consequently increase the potential of producing more positive

word of mouth marketing.

Tips for Increasing Word of Mouth Marketing

A recent study conducted to determine the most influential marketing methods, word of

mouth marketing came out on top. Hence, it has raised awareness on the important role that

consumers play in influencing other’s buying options. Therefore, you can utilize a

positive word of mouth marketing to create your own sound branding strategy. Here’s how

you can do it:

• Create a branding strategy that will get people interested and have them talk about it.

Unless you can arouse their curiosity and attention, you will not succeed in this.

• See to it that you satisfy customer needs. When people are happy about your product,

they will joyfully and willingly recommend it to others.

• Respond to feedbacks, whether positive or negative. Aside from promoting your business,

you can utilize word of mouth marketing as a means to gather essential information on how

you can improve your service and branding strategy.

In order to establish a strong business brand, you also need to create a strong business

image. This will be used by potential customers or consumers to assess their own

expectations about the company. There is a crucial moment in every marketing strategy that

is aimed at attracting the customers’ attention about your product and you achieve this

through your company image and brand, which is also why it is of extreme importance.

More than any type of impression, you want to create a positive image on your customers.

This will help ensure that you are among the top of their list when considering buying a

product similar to yours. This is just the initial phase and eventually the confidence of

your customers on your brand will soon come into play.

Creating a Professional Logo

In the world of business, the logo represents who you are as a business. Hence, it should

be able to capture and reflect the nature of your business at its most basic level.

Identity and reputation should be followed thereafter.

As a reflection of your company, your objective is to design a logo with a professional

touch because it is what creates the initial impression on the mid of the consumers. These

first impressions are almost always impossible to undo, so you cannot risk coming up with

a mediocre design. If you are unsure how to execute a design, it is always best to hire a

professional to do it for you. This will help you attain a more consistent design for your

logo that reinforces the message that your company is trying to convey. In fact, most

businesses (big or small) allot an investment for this and you should as well.

As simple as it may sound, designing a logo is an intricate process, which is why you need

a professional help realize your vision and visualize your business concepts. Among the

elements that must be considered and combined effectively are colors, shapes, light,

space, and so much more. Make sure to include this in your brand planning process.

Business Input Into The Design

Although you leave the designing job to the hands of a professional logo designer, this

does not mean that you (the business owner) is eliminated from the formula. This is your

business and it is your vision, therefore it is the most essential element in the logo

creation process.

The process involves you gathering information and producing creative ideas that will be

utilized by the designer in coming up with the design. Hence, careful planning and

brainstorming of ideas is an essential step to take before jumping into the actual design

process. You two must work in a symbiotic manner – you can share your business input to

the designer for them to translate a graphic representation of your ideas, while they can

propose designing elements that will jive with your business identity.

Where To Get Creative Ideas?

When dealing with the technical aspect of marketing strategy, often the challenge is to

produce creative ideas for your design. The key here is to stimulate your brain to arouse

creative thoughts that will make your brand stand out and still maintain that professional

image.

Here are great tips you can try to squeeze out those creative juices:

1.) Spend time reading to be able to get inspiration from various reading materials.

2.) Search the web and observe various sites you visit. Look at how the design are

produced and what kind of reaction it elicited on you.

3.) Ask your employees or other staffs for ideas. You can turn a small idea and develop it

into a valid design concept.

Image is such a vital element in the business brand, which is why it is your main

objective to create a professional design that is going to last.

Top Seven Ways To Improve Your Presentation Skills

Posted by admin | Posted in Presentation | Posted on 28-01-2009

Anyone aspiring to work in an executive capacity must to have refined presentation skills, unless of course you are the President of the United States - sorry George. However, few people are naturally eloquent speakers. Public speaking is difficult for most, but with a little help, you can polish your skills and impress even the most critical audiences. Use the following ideas to diminish your anxiety and improve your presentations.

1.Take a class. This may seem like a obvious solution, but you would be surprised how many people never think of enrolling in a public speaking class. Ask your employer if they will offer one through their training department or bring in an outside program. If they aren’t receptive to the idea, check out your local college as most offer refresher classes.

2.Join an organization dedicated to improving your public speaking skills. Not only do you have a safe environment to practice, but you get objective feedback on your presentations so you know where you need to improve.

3.Practice, practice, and then practice a little more. If you have a speech to deliver, you should know it start to finish. Practice until you are comfortable with the material and it just rolls off your tongue.

4.Video tape your practice sessions. Most people hate to see themselves on TV, so that makes this especially difficult – but extremely effective. If you are serious about mastering public speaking, you need to see yourself as others see you. Watching yourself deliver a speech will help you determine your strengths and show you where you still need improvement. You’ll also get an opportunity to see that you’re probably not as bad as you think!

5.Select topics that you are knowledgeable or passionate about. It’s much easier to be engaging and comfortable when speaking about something you are experience in or have a lot of energy around. Stick to your strengths and you’ll quickly build your confidence.

6.Speak at every opportunity. Speaking is like exercising a muscle, the more you use it, the better developed it becomes. So raise your hand the next time an opportunity arises - in all likelihood, you’ll be the only one.

7.Relax and remember that people came to see YOU. Chances are good that you are way more critical of yourself than anyone else. So take a deep breath and remember that you have something the audience wants - information - because that is where they are going to focus most of their attention.
