Teachers Should Know How to Influence a Child in School

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 24-05-2009

When parents drop of their kids in school, it is the responsibility of the teacher to make sure they are well taken cared of until it is time for them to go

home. To do this, they influence the child by teaching the subject based on a lesson plan and also make sure that they behave in the classroom.

Teaching the child about history or math is easy but making sure they behave is more challenging which is why teachers have to be taught certain techniques.

If the student is misbehaving in class, the best way is to call their attention. When you are reprimanding the child, make sure that this is done privately

to avoid embarrassing the child in class. You can tell the child to stay after class and then talking to them about it in the hopes that they will not do it

again.

Sometimes, saying it once to a child is not effective so you have to resort to other means to get the point to their heads. You can try ignoring them because

reprimanding in some cases encourages the child to misbehave even more.

You can also try what is known as seclusion where you tell the child to sit in a corner for a specified period of time. The waiting time allows the student

to listen while the class is still ongoing and at the same time gives them time to think over what they did.

When such techniques are not effective and the child becomes more problematic, it is time to exercise more extreme measures.

The teacher can schedule a parent teacher conference and explain to the parents that their son or daughter has been misbehaving or not doing well in school.

If the problem is academic, extra hours can be given so the teacher can make the student catch up with the rest of the class. If the teacher has not time, a

peer can be called in to handle it.

If the issue is misbehavior like getting into fights or vandalism, the school must inform the parents of what is happening and if nothing has changed, this

is when the school should enforce disciplinary measures.

The first is the detention and this can last from 30 to 60 minutes. Most schools do this after school and in some cases, on Saturdays. The school must put in

writing why the student was given detention so they understand what happened.

When detention doesn’t work, then perhaps suspension will be best for the school and the student. This may last for a day or longer depending on the offense.

If suspension does not work, then the school has no choice but to expel the child from the school. Although the school is free of this individual, the parent

has to deal with this problem by finding another school or trying out homebound instruction.

There are limits to what teachers can do to influence a child who is in their custody. Before resorting to extreme measures, the teacher must find out what

is wrong and then do their best to solve the problem. If they can do this on their own, get the child’s parents on board so they can monitored even when they

are not in school.

Facts About the Influence of Media on Young People

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 27-04-2009

The media has long been tagged as one of the things that influence people the most.  It is because when we talk of media it covers the radio, television, and

print.  There is also electronic media, which includes the use of computers and other latest gadgets.  With all these technology available readily available

to everybody, it cannot be denied that whatever people see and hear will have en effect on them.  The influence of media on young people is another point of

discussion.

The youth represents majority of the population.  Teenagers and young adults are part of this group.  They represent the significant percentage of people who

are self conscious of their image; hence they are the target audience of producers and advertisers.  The influence can be good or bad, depending on how the

individuals respond to the shows, movies, commercials, and other media products.

In terms of body image, the media bombards the young girls’ minds with images of skinny models.  This makes them feel that if they are a few pounds heavier

than these images on the magazine then they are unacceptable to the society.  As time passes, it has been observed that the girls who are becoming weight

conscious gets younger and younger—for instance, about 80% of nine-year-olds are on diets and that the number of eating disorder cases has been rising.

Through the media, boys are getting obsessed with their body because they always see well-built men in magazines and television shows.  Staying fit has never

been an issue but there is an alarming increase in the number of people who adhere to obsessive weight training and use anabolic steroids and dietary

supplements that promise these boys bugger muscles and more stamina for lifting.

With regard to sex, three out of four teenagers say that the television shows and movies make it seem normal for children their age to engage in sexual

relations.  The young teens regard the entertainment media as the number one source of information about sexuality and sexual health.  Being open about sex

and how they talk to their girlfriends or boyfriends about it is largely because of what they see and hear.

In terms of violence, one study shows that children are learning aggressive attitudes and behaviors because of watching shows and movies that depict such

behavior.  They develop a fear of being victimized by violence.  What most of the programs they see and hear send the false notion that in every conflict

there has to be a winner and a loser, thus making them believe that violence is a successful means of resolving conflicts.

Media violence can lead to aggressive behavior in children and this is supported by a research that states that when a child hits the age of 18, he must have

seen about 200,000 acts of violence on television alone.  Young children become desensitized to the real world violence.  They cannot easily tell the

difference between real life and fantasy that the violent images they see on television and in the movies may seem real to them.

Parents can reduce the negative influence of media on young people by limiting and monitoring the programs the children watch.  They should also teach the

children the value of inner beauty, the value of self worth, and alternatives to violence.

Why Is Goal Planning And Targeting Important To Success In Study?

Planning for a successful outcome is the basic requirement of any endeavour. Today’s football superstars didn’t get to become multi-millionaires without years of dedication to practice, planning and targets. For any life-changing event to happen, planning and goal-setting are paramount.

Prior to commencing your training course, take the time to think about your personal goals, and work out a study programme with targets or indicators of success along the way. To help you get started, use the acronym Smart to qualify the goals you plan to achieve. Smart stands for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and targeted.

Make a personal contract based on the following 5 D’s to immerse yourself in the positive outcome of your studies. This contract should be written down, and signed.

DEFINE exactly what you expect to get from your efforts, in terms of possessions, income, lifestyle etc. Make a collage of pictures that reflects these things, and look at them regularly (e.g. before your study sessions). The more specifically you define what you want, the better.

DESIRE. Explore your emotions for this one, and dig deep to discover why your studies are important. Is it to prove to yourself or others that you are an achiever, and that you deserve better things? Perhaps you want more control in your life, or maybe it’s a personal challenge.

DEDICATION (the commitment) How much time will you spend studying each week and when? Put it on a calendar, in a diary, or on the fridge! You’ve made an appointment with yourself to fulfil your future, so keep it; it’s really important to put specific time aside to study. Let the people in your life know when that is, so they won’t expect you to do other things at that time (just as they don’t when you go to your job). Psychologically you’ll also find it much easier on yourself if you do this. It means when you’re relaxing you won’t be feeling guilty that you’re not studying, and when you’re studying you won’t be feeling you’re missing out on some other activity.

DETERMINATION - The will to stick to the plan until completion and see it through. This is your contract to ensure that you won’t let yourself down.

DISCIPLINE (to overcome the hard times) - The resolve to work around challenges and not allow them to stop you achieving your goals.

Once you’ve done this, sign it and do NOT put it away in a drawer. This is a working document and should be read every day for at least one month so you buy into it and it becomes your new way of life. If and when things get tough, read it again for another month. Always have it close to hand while you study and show it to your partner, kids (if you have them), friends and parents. This will help you to see your goal through.

Courses in Computer Support

Posted by Scott Edwards | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 29-01-2009

by Scott Edwards

If we didn’t have a regular deluge of knowledgeable network and computer support workers, commerce in the UK (and around the world) would inevitably be drawn to a standstill. There is an on-going requirement for technically able people to support systems and users alike. Our requirement for better skilled and qualified individuals multiplies, as human beings become significantly more beholden to PC’s in these modern times.

Making the most fitting career option is very difficult - so which sectors are important to investigate and what questions do we need to ask?

Don’t get hung-up, as can often be the case, on the certification itself. Training is not an end in itself; this is about employment. Begin and continue with the end in mind. It’s a sad fact, but a large percentage of students commence training that sounds great in the prospectus, but which provide the end-result of a job which doesn’t satisfy. Speak to a selection of college graduates and you’ll see where we’re coming from. Stay tuned-in to what you want to achieve, and build your study action-plan from that - avoid getting them back-to-front. Stay focused on the end-goal and ensure that you’re training for something you’ll enjoy for years to come. It’s worth seeking guidance from someone that understands the market you think may suit you, and is able to give you ‘A day in the life of’ type of explanation for each job considered. All of these things are essential because you obviously have to know if this change is right for you.

Be careful that the exams you’re studying for are recognised by industry and are up-to-date. ‘In-house’ certificates are not normally useful in gaining employment. From an employer’s viewpoint, only the big-boys such as Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco (for example) provide enough commercial weight. Anything less just doesn’t cut the mustard.

We’d hazard a guess that you probably enjoy fairly practical work - a ‘hands-on’ type. If you’re like us, the unfortunate chore of reading reference guides can be just about bared when essential, but it’s not ideal. Consider interactive, multimedia study if books just don’t do it for you. Our ability to remember is increased with an involvement of all our senses - this has been an accepted fact in expert circles for decades now. Start a study-program in which you’ll receive a selection of CD and DVD based materials - you’ll learn by watching video tutorials and demonstrations, with the facility to practice your skills in interactive lab’s. You must see the type of training provided by each company you’re contemplating. Be sure that they contain instructor-led video demonstrations with virtual practice-lab’s. Pick disc based courseware (On CD or DVD) if possible. You’re then protected from internet connection failure and issues with signal quality.

There is no way of over emphasising this: You have to get round-the-clock 24×7 professional support from mentors and instructors. We can tell you that you’ll strongly regret it if you don’t follow this rule rigidly. Locate training schools where you can access help at all hours of the day and night (no matter if it’s in the middle of the night on a weekend!) You’ll need direct-access to qualified mentors and tutors and not a message system as this will slow you down - constantly waiting for a call-back during office hours. The best training colleges opt for an internet-based round-the-clock system involving many support centres from around the world. You’re offered a simple environment that accesses the most appropriate office irrespective of the time of day: Support available as-and-when you want it. Find an educator that is worth purchasing from. Only proper live 24×7 round-the-clock support delivers what is required.

Adding in the cost of exams upfront then including an exam guarantee is a common method with a number of training colleges. But look at the facts: Clearly it isn’t free - you’re still footing the bill for it - it’s just been included in your package price. People who take each progressive exam, funding them one at a time are much better placed to get through first time. They are mindful of what they’ve paid and prepare more appropriately to be ready for the task. Doesn’t it make more sense to hold on to your money and pay for the exam when you take the exam, instead of paying a premium to a training company, and also to sit exams more locally - instead of the remote centre that’s convenient only to the trainer? Paying in advance for examinations (which also includes interest if you’ve taken out a loan) is madness. Resist being talked into filling the training company’s account with additional funds simply to help their cash-flow! There are those who hope that you won’t get to do them all - but they won’t refund the cash. Also, exam guarantees often have very little value. The majority of organisations won’t pay again for an exam until you’ve completely satisfied them that you’re ready this time. On average, exams cost around the 112 pounds mark last year through local VUE or Pro-metric centres throughout the country. So don’t be talked into shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds more for ‘Exam Guarantees’, when common sense dictates that the responsible approach is study, commitment and preparing with good quality mock and practice exams.

We’re regularly asked to explain why academic qualifications are being overtaken by more commercially accredited qualifications? As we require increasingly more effective technological know-how, industry has moved to the specialised core-skills learning only available through the vendors themselves - for example companies like CISCO, Adobe, Microsoft and CompTIA. This frequently provides reductions in both cost and time. Of course, a reasonable amount of relevant additional information must be learned, but essential specialised knowledge in the areas needed gives a commercially educated student a distinct advantage. It’s rather like the advert: ‘It does what it says on the tin’. The company just needs to know what they need doing and then match up the appropriate exam numbers as a requirement. They’ll know then that all applicants can do what they need.

Being at the forefront of the cutting-edge of new technology is about as exciting as it can get. You become one of a team of people defining the world to come. There are people who believe that the technological advancement we’ve had over recent years is cooling down. There is no truth in this at all. Terrific advances are ahead of us, and most especially the internet will be the biggest thing to affect the way we live. Should receiving a good salary be up there on your wish list, you will be happy to know that the average salary of the majority of IT staff is considerably better than salaries in most other jobs or industries. The requirement for well trained and qualified IT technicians is assured for many years to come, because of the constant increase in the technology industry and the massive shortage still in existence.
