   Most of the kids I coach forget whether they’ve won or lost five minutes after the game ends. The kids that worry about losing do so because their parents complain about it all the way home from the rink.

   It’s kids sports. It isn’t life and death. Relax, it’s just a game!

   Think about it.

   His perspective on youth sports is excellent! There is much to be said about letting kids play sports on their own. They learn to set rules, handle conflict, and compromise among themselves.

   Although I agree in principle that the kids should have fun, part of the experience relates to self worth. Coach Lucia’s comment that it doesn’t matter whether the kids win or lose fails to realize that winning part of the time makes the kids feel better. The kids are not likely to continue with a given sport if they are losing all of the time. Of course, part of whether they win or lose depends on the coach & part on the team.

    Lucia is one of the best coaches in college hockey history. PERIOD! If anyone wants to argue that they can go study the win percentage. 200+ wins and less than 100 losses? Cmon! .658% winning.
